Union County EMS took over county EMS operations on August 8, 2003.  Union County EMS currently has three 24-hour ALS units: Two are stationed in Maynardville, and one is stationed in Plainview.  Union County has approximately 22,000 residents with no hospital, so all patients must go to Knoxville, Claiborne Co., or Anderson Co. hospitals.
